UPDATE: A new version of this tutorial is available here. However, please post your comments here.
Now with Windows X’s Vista Transformation pack 7.0 released, it is also time for me to provide you guys with an update of our own Windows XP to Windows Vista Transformation instructions. This post will include more detailed and simpler instructions on how you are going to do so.
STEP 1 - WINDOWBLINDS
First, download Stardock Object Desktop’s WindowBlinds (This should not be re-distributed, please download only one copy for yourself) by using the link below. This is very crucial if you want to achieve the Windows Vista Aero Glass look. After you have finished the download, Extract all the files from the Archive and read the README for further insructions.
A Sidenote for WindowBlinds 5.5 Users who are using Windows Vista - Release 2.2 now supports Windows Vista! Just install the crack by using the Auto Crack Install. Please note that only WindowBlinds 5.5 and newer supports Windows Vista. WindowBlinds version 5.5 is now included in release 2.2 of the package. After you have downloaded, Install, then use the Auto Crack Install to intall the crack. (Read the Instructions!) If you have any problems, please write a comment at the bottom of this post or in the Support/Feedback Forums.
STEP 2 - VISTA TRANSFORMATION PACK
Next, download Windows X’s Vista Transformation Pack 7.0 from the link provided below. Extract/UnZIP the Archive, then Install. Make sure you install everything included in the package, including the WindowBlinds “Aero Glass” Theme. After Installation, you will be required to restart Windows. After your computer has been restarted, you will be able to configure your Vista Transformation Pack options in the Vista Transformation Pack Welcome Center. To use Windows X’s Aero Style skin, click on “Configure User Account”, then on “Configure Vista Theme”. Choose to install the “Aero Glass” theme, then you will be asked to restart. Do so before proceeding to STEP 3.
STEP 3 - OTHER ESSENTIALS
What would be Windows Vista without Windows Flip 3D, Window Transitions and Games? For the Windows Flip 3D effect, Otaku Software’s TopDesk will do the job. Get it Here.
For the Window Transitions, WindowFX is the best candidate among all the other programs out there. Get yourself a Trial copy, which is good enough from Here. Now, for the games. Jonathan Wilson has found a way to run Windows Vista games on a Windows XP machine. The blog post he has written can be found Here.

its so complicated! but thanks.

uh…one problem…the windowblinds refuses to run on vista, for vista users. and the wb 5.5 cracks are not working yet - they simply make wb ask you to reboot every single time. so, the only usable version of wb is wb 5.1 for xp only (not vista)

Thanks

Thank you for making Windows X’s Vista Transformation pack 7.0, Stardock Object Desktop’s WindowBlinds and Otaku Software’s TopDesk available. Yesterday I downloaded and installed vtp7 from Mr. Windows, which works great, however, I wasn’t able to get the cracked version of WindowBlinds till now. Question: Can I install WindowBlinds after installing vtp7 or do I have to remove vtp7 and start all over as per your instructions? Thanx again for all your work. Skeptik
June 29th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
You can install WindowBlinds after you install VTP 7.0, but you have to find the Vista Skin yourself, as VTP 7.0 will not install the WB skin for you if you don’t have WindowBlinds installed on your PC at the time of installation. So, good luck!

nice job man, you are very intuitive.
June 30th, 2007 at 5:11 am
This seems like a dumb question you say “but you have to find the Vista Skin yourself, as VTP 7.0 will not install the WB skin” so where do you find it. I dont see what WB acyually does as you can choose the Aero under Display properties apperance. To me WB looks unnecassary and does not add any value to VTP 7.0

all the links are broken can you plz reupload them?
July 5th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
No, they are not broken. I just updated the link, so that might be the cause of a “broken link”. Sorry, please re-download. The new release now works for Windows Vista users and includes the Aero Glass skins for Windows XP.

Wow, this takes dedication, and a real love for this.
Thank you so very much, and keep up the good work bud.

just tried to download VTP7 from the above link incase there has been any changes made since it was first released, but the zip file could not be opened, you just get an error saying the file was corupted.
July 7th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
One other thing the fast Aero Blur download how do you install it, if you click on it you just get asked what program you want to open it with.
July 7th, 2007 at 10:16 pm
VTP7.zip is working fine. Use WinRAR. Besides, the ZIP file is from Windows X and I’m just hosting the file as a mirror. And regarding the WB theme, you have to install WB first before opening the skin. Please read the instructions in the README. Thanks.

Thanks for the tutorial - but isn’t WindowBlinds like $20? Most people aim for freeware…
July 11th, 2007 at 2:53 pm
But isn’t Warez better? Some people just can’t afford $20 for WindowBlinds.

I have Windows Blinds from the Altrenative download link because the other link of Windows Blinds gives me a corrupted ZIP folder. Also, with the alternate link, it does not have the Areo Style glass effect, nor can I find the skin on the Windows Blinds website.
July 13th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Thanks for your comment, Salman. The problem is caused by using WinZIP, as it does not allow your computer to open a ZIP file with a .exe file in it. It might also be your Anti-Virus program blocking WinZIP/WinRAR from extracting a .exe file. I have did several tests and this seems to be true. Try downloading WinRAR, or disable your Anti-Virus process from Windows Task Manager before extracting the files, or both. I will still update the alternative link with the updated one. Thanks for reminding me!
