HITMAN, the film adaptation of the controversial video game that features the silent assassin Agent 47, will premiere in US and Canadian cinemas later today. It will be shown in cinemas later this month in other countries. In Singapore, it will be released on the 29th of November.
Like the video game, the film HITMAN follows the story of Agent 47, Diana, Ort-Meyer and the ICA (International Contracts Agency). Basically, Agent 47, the main character of the story, is a first-class clone created by professor Ort-Meyer. He was intended to be a cold-blooded killing machine. His name is derived from the last two numbers of the barcode at the back of his head.
From the released promotional media, such as trailers, screenshots and the HITMAN website, it seems that the ambience and feel of the film resembles Hitman: Blood Money, the latest game in the series, more than any of the other Hitman games, although the story is based off Hitman: Codename 47. This might be due to Blood Money being the most recent game in the series.
Like in the case of Manhunt 2, HITMAN was a very controversial subject before its release. It was supposed to be rated R for Restricted in most countries, but was later lowered to a more acceptable rating. In US, it is still rated R. In Singapore, it was rated NC-16 and in Taiwan it was rated R-12.
So, will HITMAN dissapoint or will it please the gaming community? Will it end up like Doom, or will it end up like Resident Evil? Perhaps the Halo movie will fare better? We’re not sure, but this film adaptation of HIMAN might after all be worth the watch, if you enjoyed the game.
