Video Games Update 6: The E3 2008 countdown!

The Electronic Entertainment Expo 2008 (E3 2008) hits us in a matter of days. Many video game developers will be keeping mum till the big surprises hit us on the week of E3 2008. The convention, which is held in Los Angeles, will be expected to showcase some exciting news.

However, before the big event, let’s have a look at some of the pre-convention things that are about to happen in the computer and video gaming industry. Some of the more exciting things include a free, new Halo 3 map from Bungie to be released tomorrow.

Tomorrow, July 8: “Bungie Monday”

Bungie Day Halo 3 Cold Storage
This Monday, July 7 2008 is Bungie Day on Xbox Live Marketplace. This means… free stuff! There will be free gamerpics and a gratis theme that are available on that day only, along with a new map called Cold Storage.

The Bungie Weekly Update has also stated that the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack will have its prices slashed from 800 Microsoft Points to 600 Microsoft Points. Definitely, tomorrow is going to be a seriously crazy monday for us Xbox 360 guys!

Rock Band gets The Who’s downloadable songs

On July 15th, Rock Band players will get to purchase a line-up of classic The Who jams as downloadable content, including three selections from “Who’s Next.” The full list of tracks to be included in the The Best of The Who Rock Band Edition pack are listed below.

Amazing Journey
Baba O’Riley
Behind Blue Eyes
Eminence Front
Going Mobile
Leaving Here
My Generation (LIVE)
Real Good Looking Boy
Sea & Sand
Summertime Blues (LIVE)
Who Are You
Young Man Blues (LIVE)

It sure sounds great, as there are a couple of songs there that I will definitely be looking forward to, such as Eminence Front (which was also in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ soundtrack), Baba O’ Riley (CSI: New York!) and Behind Blue Eyes. Since Rock Band downloadable content works with Rock Band 2, it’s real great news!

Burnout Paradise: Planes to be introduced?

Planes? Doesn’t that ring a bell? Oh yes, Rockstar Games left it out in Grand Theft Auto IV. Sure, Criterion games will fill in the void in their latest action sandbox racing title. Yes, they added bikes, but this time, it will be even crazier.

Criterion said that they will begin working on introducing planes into Burnout Paradise. We still have got no idea how that will work, but crashing planes, cars and bikes sure sounds like a great idea for those still hoping for a Dodo to appear in Grand Theft Auto IV.

GamesRadar: Wikipedia article match-ups!

Wikipedia the WTF world

Wikipedia is a cultural phenomena, isn’t it? Sure. Being the “encyclopedia that anyone can edit”, it seems that gamers, geeks and kids alike can now be as influential as even a university professor in this day and age where anything goes on the internet.

GamesRadar has written a nicely organised feature on this Wikipedia phenomena, discussing how several video game articles and topics on Wikipedia beat their real-life counterparts in terms of article word length. Do give it a look here!

The End…

Yes, this is the end of another video games related article. It has been a great time typing this up, I hope you have had a great time reading it, too. Do give us your comments if you have something to say, if not, don’t forget to be stay tuned for more news and updates!
