Sam Houser chats about Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes

GTA 4 Xbox LIVE

Sam Houser, co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, has talked a little bit on what some of the downloadable XBOX 360 episodic content might be, and how does it play.

“In the game, you might be walking around and then someone will come up to you and say something like, ‘Hey, I need your help’, and you’ll be like, ‘What? this isn’t a story mission’, and he’ll be like, ‘You see that room up there? That’s my wife and she’s f*cking some bloke, and I need you to go and do…’ and this little story will unfold from there just randomly,” he explained to Edge magazine.

The opportunity for things like that I would say is enormous. Really, though, for the downloadable content in general, it’s about seeing how people get turned on by the game, and then we will tailor the production. We are very tuned into the reactions of the audience and we will go a certain way or another.”

Sam Houser also stated that the Grand Theft Auto IV ‘episodes’, as they are called, would be “pretty deep, offering another full-on adventure in this world” and that “you’ll get a lot of content for your money”, just as you should do with a fully-boxed game, and we should really think of it as the next-generaton versions of Vice City and San Andreas.

DJ Green Lantern in Grand Theft Auto IV

Recently, Men’s magazine KING interviewed New York DJ and hip hop artist Green Lantern, in which he revealed some information on his involvement with the soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto IV.

He also mentioned collaborations with other artistes such as Styles P and Uncle Murda, and some other unnamed hip-hop artistes.
In regards to specific songs that will appear in Grand Theft Auto IV, he mentioned about a song from Maino entitled “Getaway Driver” will be featured in Grand Theft Auto IV.

“We sat down and it ended up like a whole radio show. This particular show, there’s a little bit of a budget involved. It’s not the normal licensed-out music. When you jump in the car, you’re going to be able to hear a whole Green Lantern radio show filled with nothing but exclusive music I produced for the game.”

Thanks to Jordan from Planet Grand Theft Auto for catching this. Don’t forget to give this post your comments! Stay tuned for more pieces of Grand Theft Auto IV news, media and information - right here!

  • Comedy Clubs have a big role in Grand Theft Auto IV, as Strip Clubs did in previous Grand Theft Auto titles.
  • Jets and planes fly through the Airport, and have visible pilots in them. The tester drove alongside a jet, only to have a 4 star wanted level appear.
  • One encounter face-to-face with a cop got the response “I’m a cop…… and you’re a dickhead!”
  • On the topic of multiplayer: Houser isn’t able to discuss in detail today, but he does mention being able to get together online in the game with no other goal other than using it as a meeting place. “I’ll meet you in a car and we’ll hang and just drive and listen to music, chilling in the car, with your 3D model sitting next to me,” he says.
  • The car paintjobs are noticeable from newer cars being gleaming and spotless, to old cars being rusted and dull.
  • Bulletholes are permanent, as is dirt on the cars.
  • Interior walls can be greatly damaged, “ripping chunks out of the plaster with gunfire.”

Skit Volume 2 - Episode 2 - “Recreational Sports”

Skit Volume 2 - Featuring DLH

It’s been a short time, since I posted Episode 1 eh? I hope you like Episode 2.

Richie walked down the street to a payphone, and inserted a quarter in the slot. He dialed his home phone number to call his wife. The phone rang for a few minutes until she finally answered.

“Hello?”

“Sara? Guess who.” Richie replied playfully.

“Richie? Is that you? When did you get out?” Sara replied with excitement.

“Today, I got some business to take care of and then I’ll be home. I just called to tell you that I love you and I’ll see you tonight.” Richie answered.

“Ok honey, I love you, hurry home I can’t wait to see you.” Sara replied lovingly.

“Alright, see you tonight babe. Bye.” Richie said as he hung up the phone.

He loved his wife and kids more then anything, but business comes first. He walked down the street some more till he reached Fred’s Sporting Goods. Richie walked inside and began looking around. With in a few moments he heard his name called out from behind the counter, “Richie?”

“Yeah it’s me Freddie, and before you ask, I got released today.” Richie responded.

“Wow it’s good to see you, but why are you here?” Freddie asked curiously.

“Well I thought I would check your shop out and see how it’s doing. It’s a nice place; you might want to think about getting some protection from the local gangs, because this neighbor hood can be quite dangerous.” Richie answered.

“That’s why I have Omar working for me.” Freddie said as a big 6’6 three hundred pound African American man walked out from the back storage room. “I hired Omar as a salesman, but he comes in handy when having to deal with the resident thugs.”

“Well Freddie you should really let me handle your protection, because I’d hate to see someone get hurt or something in your shop get damaged.” Richie replied.

“No, I’m good Richie. You want to buy something?” Freddie responded.

“Yeah I need a baseball bat for my apartment. Sara wants me to get one so we can feel safe at home. Omar would you mind helping me pick out a good bat?” Richie asked.

“Ok, what kind you looking for?” Omar questioned as he came over to the bats section and reached for one.

“How about the old fashioned Louisville slugger?” Richie answered.

Omar reached up high and grabbed the wooden bat off the rack. He handed it to Richie and waited for his reaction. Richie gripped the bat tightly and gave it a few practice swings.

“Maybe I’ll go with that aluminum bat, could you hand it to me?” Richie said as he finished his last practice swing with the wooden bat.

“Ok I’ll get it.” Omar said as he reached up to grab it.

Richie swung the bat fiercely and slammed it against the back of Omar’s head. Omar fell to his knees and Richie swung a few more times, beating the hell out of Omar. Omar fell onto the floor faced down finally and Richie gave one last swing, BOOM! The bat broke into pieces, leaving wooden fragments all over the floor and an unconscious Omar.

“It looks like I’ll go with the aluminum bat.” Richie said as he grabbed the aluminum bat.

He walked coolly over to the counter; Freddie was in shock that his muscle bound body guard had been taken down so easily.

“Now I’ll be back in each week on Friday to pick up my money, because I think you want me protecting you. Am I right?” Richie asked nicely.

“Y-Y-Yeah your right, I’ll have the money ready each week for you, and you can keep the bat, no charge.” Freddie replied with a stutter as he handed Richie this week’s payment.

“That’s what I like to hear, cooperation.” Richie responded with a cold face.

Two New Grand Theft Auto IV Magazine Screenshots

NIKO ROCKET OXMFMH Car Jump GTA4 GTA IVGirl Art GTA4
DC88 from GTAForums has gotten the April issue of OXM (Official Xbox Magazine), and it contains a new preview of Grand Theft Auto IV, along with one new screenshot. The screenshot shows Niko in a black suit, holding a rocket launcher, and standing next to a blown-up car.

The only new point mentioned in the preview is that painted yellow lines adjacent to safehouses (in dense areas such as Algonquin) serve as garages. “Park your car there and it’ll remain there indefinitely,” the magazine mentioned. Everything else in the preview, which includes seven other screenshots, has been seen or mentioned before.

Also, FHM has published a screen of Grand Theft Auto IV with a car jumping a ramp at night with two helicopters chasing after it in the beautiful night sky of Liberty City. We owuld like to thank Torchwood of the GTAForums for the pictures and details.

Furthermore, a previously unseen Grand Theft Auto IV artwork has surfaced from the Australian Xbox site. The site also says that the Grand Theft Auto IV Special Edition is now sold out in Australia, a sad thing for our folks in Australia. The artwork mentioned shows a scantily-clad woman in sunglasses, perhaps resembline prostitutes in the game.

More Grand Theft Auto IV hands-on will be popping up any time soon, with more and more magazines getting a chance to head over to Rockstar games’ studios to test drive Grand Theft Auto IV. Stay tuned for more news, expecially when higher-resolution versions of these images get released! Ciao!

Skit Volume 2 - Episode 1 - “An Old Friend”

Well, for those who have been with us since the beginning of -=}{oT~dEv1L 666=-’s HQ, Skits was a novelty idea for this weblog. News can get boring sometimes, doesn’t it? We hope you like this. We’re now back with Episode 1 of Skit Volume 2! This one, all featuring The Evil Genius DLH! We hope you like it.

Grey clouds loomed over Liberty City as people ran inside their homes at the sound of thunder. The forecast was severe thunderstorms with strong winds, so the everyday civilians knew it was time to stay indoors for the rest of the day. But for one man this day was special, and that man was forty-two year old wiseguy Richie Copperelli. He walked outside of the prison gates after spending ten years inside the concrete hell. Dressed in a dark blue collared shirt with a tattered tan jacket, and a pair of black slacks with black worn out dress shoes, Richie walked towards the side walk. He felt the wind blow through his hair as he stepped into freedom for the first time in ten years. He walked down the side walk looking around at all the new changes that had been made since he had been incarcerated. He kept walking until he finally made his way to Patrizio’s Bistro. Richie looked at the sign and walked inside. He sat down at a table and ordered a small cappuccino from the young waitress.

“Richie Copperelli? Wow is it really you?” A strange voice called out.

Richie turned to see three guys walking up behind him.

“Wow I didn’t know you were out of prison! My name is Cristian Tismonte, and these are my homies Marco Peruzzi and Matteo Grosso.” Cristian said as him and his two friends stood in front of Richie.

“Do I know you?” Richie questioned as he sipped his cappuccino from the waitress.

“No, but we know you. We’ve heard stories about the things you done and if you ever need anything done just call us and we’ll be happy to work for someone like you.” Cristian replied.

“Ok, I appreciate the respect. Now get the f*ck out of my face so I can have some peace.” Richie responded.

Cristian answered with a “Yes sir” and left with his two friends. Richie clutched his cappuccino in a paper cup and walked out of the restaurant. He crossed the street and walked in the barbershop.

“How you doing Eddie? How’s business been?” Richie asked as he looked at the cash register.

“Oh sh*t, when did you get out Richie?” Eddie replied nervously.

“Today, I’m here to collect my share of your profits for the week. Since I’m out of prison, I’ll be watching over your business again to make sure you done get hurt by some of these local hoodlums.” Richie said sternly.

“F*ck you Richie, I don’t want nothing to do with a grease ball c*cksucker like you. I’m not paying you hear me?!” Eddie replied trying to assert himself.

“You’re not paying? Don’t forget who helped you get this business in the first place. If it wasn’t for me, you’d still be dealing dope on the streets.” Eddie responded.

“F*ck you Richie, I’m not paying.” Eddie answered.

Richie glared at Eddie and calmly set his cappuccino down on the counter. Next he walked over and delivered a hard right punch to Eddie’s gut. Richie laughed as he grabbed a pair of scissors off the counter and stabbed them deep inside Eddie’s back.

“ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH!” Eddie shrieked in pain.

Eddie fell to the floor and started squirming around crying. Mean while Richie was collecting his money for this week out of the cash register.

“Nice doing business with you.” Richie said with a smile as he left the barbershop stuffing the last bit of money into his pockets.

Grand Theft Auto IV Previews and Wall Mural

GTA IV 4 Mural Wall Painting WANTED Niko Bellic
Well, remember those Grand Theft Auto IV WANTED posters and wall paintings on street corners that we had reported earlier? As part of the Grand Theft Auto IV marketing campaign, Rockstar Games have changed the Wall Mural painting in the corner of Spring and Canal in Manhattan.

That same wall used to bear paintings of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas artwork and several Grand Theft Auto IV marketing. It used to have the painting of the Lola artwork, and the “IV” logo. The new Wall Mural change will look like it’s younger sibling found in Belgium last year.

Also, EGM has released a podcast, “EGM Live”. They said many things about their hands-on session with Grand Theft Auto IV, and you can read some of the amazing things about Grand Theft Auto IV below, or listen tot he podcast yourself here.

- “My God. I was just blown away.”
- When discussing worries some people had about the PS3 version, the editors stated this: “I think we can all say the PS3 version is pretty damn good.”
- “I was standing in the Times Square equivalent firing rockets everywhere and like pouring rain and things exploding and the [framerate] doesn’t slow down.”
- They discussed how real the rain looks and how it doesn’t look fake at all. “It’s not just a bunch of drops falling in a pattern. It feel like weather.”
- They discussed how different each area looked in the game and how “each district of the city felt so different.”
- When asked if they felt like this new Liberty City feels like the old one from Grand Theft Auto III, the editor said that one part reminded him of the starting point from the old game known as the Red Light District. He called it Hepburn Heights, but he may have made a mistake. Overall though, he said it felt new and not like the old game.
- “Every square inch [of Liberty City] feels different” than other parts of the city.
- They explained that the framerate isn’t “silky-smooth” but it’s not noticably bad.
- The editors talked about using molotov cocktails.
- The editors believe that the controls will be the “biggest sticky point” in terms of what reviewers will complain about when the game is reviewed in April. “The shooting is good but it won’t redefine it.”
- The editors talked about how they used a Hummer which is most likely a Patriot.
- One of the EGM players crashed into an edge of a bridge and flew out of the windshield 30 feet down and died.
- “I picked up a cellphone and I called 911 and a cop comes to answer the call. He gets out and talks to people.” Then he stole the cop car and pulled up the police database where you can search by name or search by picture. They searched by name and cycled through hundreds of dossier pictures and profiles. They find two results and get the addresses and carry out the mission.
- “I actually was really surprised how much I liked Niko right away.”
- “The writing in this game is so freakin’ good, top notch and believable.”
- They discussed how much they know they will care about the stories and characters in the game and how important that is.

Spectacular, isn’t it? Especially a game like Grand Theft Auto IV, where lives of men were lost in the process of developing it, it’s got to be really an amazing, breathtaking game, just at one look. Plus, French game site Jeuxactu has taken Grand Theft Auto for a test drive too. Let’s take a look at what they had to say about this amazing game!

* It took 5 years and 300 people to develop Grand Theft Auto IV.
* The smallest details have been taken into account, from non-working bulbs to newspapers flying in the wind.
* Peds live their lives like any other human. Law Enforcement Agencies will be checking papers, a businessman is walking faster than other peds, a woman is making a phone call in a phone booth, and so on.
* They talk about Liberty City being as big as San Andreas.
* Bodybuilding will no longer be in the game and you won’t be able to make money by buying businesses anymore.
* If you commit a very serious crime, the army will be against you. You’ll see heavily armed soldiers.
* By keeping good relationships, Niko may have some clues for future missions.
* According to the website, it’ll take 60 to 70 hours to complete the game.
* Italians, Puerto Ricans, Russians, Jamaicans, Chinese Triad and Mafia are some of Grand Theft Auto IV’s gangs.
* It might take more than one try to start a car or a motorbike.

Enjoy, guys! Read it, love it! You might want to leave a comment, or bookmark this page. Remember, we will be posting any upcoming updates on Grand Theft Auto IV when they come out. Be sure to stay tuned, don’t go away!
